Zero Day
It was nice to be able to stay in town for free last night. Kent is a small, sort of ritzy town with lots of botique shops, and really expensive accomodations. We had breakfast across the street at a bakery. I had a really great cup of coffee, 2 eggs and a bagel. The rest of the morning we all did various town chores. Grocery store, post office, library, the usual. We browsed the local bookstore for a bit. Slims and Rainbow Eyes were excited about the new Merrels they bought at SunDog Shoes. We ate lunch in town at the Villager. I had a good monte cristo. In the middle of the afternoon, we started packing up our gear and walked over to the 'outfitter'. It was more like an icecream parlor, that sold NorthFace jackets. Weird. We were all about to hike out, but then it started pouring. So we went back to the church, and asked the pastor if we could camp there again. Usually, they have a one night limit, but since the weather was turning, and no other hikers had asked to stay, he let us camp there again. So we set up, trying to keep our gear dry. Tink and Rainbow Eyes crashed out in their tents. Apache, Slims, and I walked over to the Italian restaurant in town because we had found out earlier that it was pasta night. All you can eat, of your choice of pastas and sauces, for $9. Lucky us. I slept good, with a full belly, under my tarp, to the sound of the rain.
